Habit 8

Habit of The Month

Habit 8: Find Your Voice and Inspire Others To Find Theirs

The Habit of Contribution

People who have found their voice focus on expanding their circle of influence, being trustworthy, building trust, blending the voices of others, and creating a common vision. They align goals and systems and empower others.

Great achievers express their voice by developing their vision, discipline, passion, and conscience. They recognize, respect and create meaningful opportunities for others to express their voices.

Kid Language

I have found something that I am good at and really like doing. I am proud but do not boast. Instead, I use my expertise to help and inspire others.

Ways to Practice Find Your Voice
  • Try something new like painting, horseback riding, or baseball. Then ask yourself: Did I enjoy myself? Was it easy or hard? Do I want to learn more?
  • Go to the library or search the internet to find reading material on new things. What kinds of things spark your interest? What do you want to continue learning about?
  • Plan some time to help someone in need. How did the experience make you feel?

Cancer Society

      HELP PES HELP FAMILIES!

What Is Relay For Life?

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is the only Global walk that stands for every cancer while we walk for every life. Since 1985, communities across the world have come together to honor and remember loved ones and take action for lifesaving change.

At Relay For Life, you'll find community members taking turns walking a path or track lined with luminaria bags. You'll have the opportunity to cheer for local survivors (or participate as a survivor yourself) in our first lap of the day. Caregivers of cancer patients (currently or previously diagnosed) will then be invited to join the Survivors. Local entertainers will keep you energized. As it gets dark, we will light the luminaria bags surrounding the track in a memorable luminaria ceremony. There will be opportunities to fundraise & fight back!

What does the American Cancer Society do?

Who We Are

The American Cancer Society is the leading cancer-fighting organization with a vision of ending cancer as we know it, for everyone. We are the only organization working to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer. Learn more about who we are, what we do, and our plans for the future by exploring the areas below.

What We Do

While most people know us for our research, we do so much more. We work to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. We advocate for lifesaving policy changes. We promote healthy lifestyles to help you prevent cancer. We research cancer and its causes to find more answers and better treatments. We provide information, answers, and support to people in every community who have been touched by cancer. And we do it all 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Give With Confidence

The American Cancer Society is proud to hold top ratings from Charity Navigator, the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance, and Candid, all widely recognized and respected charity rating and watchdog groups, demonstrating our continuing commitment to accountability, transparency, and ethical practices.

  • The American Cancer Society holds a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest and most-utilized independent charity evaluator, the highest possible rating an organization can achieve.
  • The American Cancer Society holds the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance National Charity Seal, which certifies the American Cancer Society adheres to the Alliance's strong and comprehensive standards, a certification given only after rigorous BBB review and approval.
  • The American Cancer Society holds a platinum seal of transparency from Candid, indicating the highest level of transparency and completeness of an organization's profile.
  • 80% of our expenses go directly to fund our mission to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat and survive cancer.

You can give with confidence knowing your gift, of any amount, is used to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families.

DEAR

Poetry

National Poetry Month & "Drop Everything and Read" (DEAR) a month-long reading initiative encouraging everyone to prioritize reading.

In April, we celebrate both National Poetry Month and "Drop Everything and Read" (DEAR), a month-long reading initiative encouraging everyone to prioritize reading.

What is D.E.A.R.?

D.E.A.R. stands for “Drop Everything and Read,” a national month-long celebration of reading designed to remind folks of all ages to make reading a priority activity in their lives. Because, what’s more fundamental than reading, really?

Can D.E.A.R. be celebrated anytime?

Yes, of course! We encourage you to "Drop Everything and Read" every day throughout the year. The goal of the program is to prompt people to make reading a regular part of their routine... whether they’re reading solo or together with their classmates, parents, or friends. So, go ahead and join the millions of families, schools, bookstores, and communities who have participated throughout the years and pledge to "drop" what you’re doing in order to read a good book.

National Poetry Month Poem Titled " The World is Bright, Let's Sing and Play!"

The sun shines bright, a happy day,

The birds all sing, come what may.

With laughter loud and spirits free,

Let's dance and sing for you and me!

Thank you

Dear Parents,

On behalf of our entire school staff, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for your continued support throughout this year. Your involvement in school activities, your encouragement at home, and your collaboration with our teachers have all contributed to the success of our students. Together, we have created a thriving school community, and I am confident that this partnership will continue to flourish in the years to come. Thank you for being such a vital part of our school family.

Tips for Spring Break!

To make Spring Break both enjoyable and enriching for your children, consider incorporating a blend of outdoor activities, educational experiences, and family bonding moments.

Organize outdoor adventures like hiking in local parks, bike riding, or picnicking. These activities offer a wonderful opportunity for the family to connect with nature, which has been shown to reduce stress and improve mood.

Set aside time for arts and crafts, allowing your children to express their creativity through painting, scrapbooking, or even building birdhouses. This not only keeps them engaged but also fosters problem-solving skills and imagination.

Use this break as a chance to learn outside the classroom. Visiting museums, science centers, or zoos can be both fun and educational, providing new experiences that stimulate curiosity and learning.

Volunteer work can teach children about compassion and community service. Whether it’s assisting at animal shelters or participating in park cleanups, it’s a valuable way to spend time together while making a positive impact.

Organize a family movie night as a way to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Sharing your favorite childhood films can be a special bonding experience.

Create a scavenger hunt in your backyard or a local park. This activity can be tailored to any age, encouraging problem-solving and exploration.

Spring Break provides a perfect time to teach your children cooking or baking. Working on recipes together not only teaches valuable life skills but also results in delicious treats to enjoy as a family.

For working parents, enrolling children in daycare or camps during Spring Break can be beneficial. These programs often offer structured activities that are both fun and educational, providing children with opportunities to socialize and learn new skills.
